Oleson/Eaton Family Pictures: Post # 97

Just a note for those who follow:  I found another photo of Will and he definitely does not resemble Chester Johnson.  I think that the picture back is correct, still not sure who Chester's daughter's name is though.  Anyone know?

This is a great photo - everyone at Fred's party was told to hold
still while the picture was taken.  Check out little Marvin Shaw's facial expression.  Who says things change!  Ten year old boys still roll their eyes when they are bored.
(Lets skip the picture, I just want the cake!)

Party was for Fred and Karen Bierman, the toddler
sitting on Fred's lap.  I would guess one year old.

The back of the picture shows Chester Johnson to the
right of Fred.  However, it almost looks like his brother
Will?  Not sure Will was married with a daughter though
so it may be Chester Johnson.  What would the daughter's
name be?  Anyone know?

Marie Johnson, supposedly wife of Chester to the left of
Maxine.  Duane Oleson, the one with the farmers tan.  A
group of Misfeldts, 4-of-them including young boy Leroy,
and Marvin Shaw with his eyes rolled.

Check out the cakes - lots of gluten for the family.  We
think, based on medical history of the rest of the family,
that Fred had celiacs disease.  This birthday cake was
certainly a source of irritation.  One he was no doubt
not aware of.  Bummer...

A 2014 Spring Trip to Lauterbrunnen, SW - Our First Lightfoot Concert

We Just hosted our friends for a Nashville visit that starred
in this video.  Thanks for coming to see us Keith & Myra.
Lets do this every year or so.

I went to my first Lightfoot concert in 1974 -
I think that Carol went to...  Probably with our very
cool friends, Doug & Donna. (They were a lot cooler
than we were.)  Doug remains a friend, we have
lost track of Donna.  Do you remember the last
concert you went to that cost $4.50?

Chinese Checkers or Maybe Just Checkers in China

Not sure what game they were playing but I am sure
that it happens almost every day under a beautiful overhang
path in a public park in China.  Retired folks appear to all
gather and watch the checkers action.  No one payed us
much attention as we walked passed and took pictures.

I love this thing call travel... no matter where we go though,
it seems like people here are like people there and so on.
It makes traveling pretty easy... just act normal and it all works.

STORYBOOK ISLAND - RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA

Storybook Island - Rapid City, SD

My Buddy and His Buddettes!

My buddy Steve and two of his family friends.
(This picture must have downloaded during a Torrey
Pines Video transfer.)  He is a really good friend of mine.

I value his company when we get together - it is like
life apart (40 years) never happened.

The China Great Wall Family Picture Shadow

Our obligatory "Family Shadow Picture" which is
required at every major stop when the sun is
shining.  Although we have been known to also
utilize bright street lights.

The Great Wall is now officially "Off the Bucket
List".   Although a trip back would be fine.

Erica was interested to find out that they have a
marathon on the wall every year as well.  Oh boy,
what a workout that would be with these steep steps!

Every time we get with Kay & Dan, she tells the story of
visiting out house when Carol was working and I was in
charge of supper.  She said that both girls were eating like
crazy - shoveling it in.  I told her my secret, "I wait until
they are really hungry before I bother cooking."

My Neanderthal DNA is High: 94% higher than everyone else on 23&me

As I was putting my harness into the back of the CRV yesterday, I glanced at the logo
that Supair put on my flying harness.  I had a chuckle all the way home.

I used to love to swing as a kid.   I cannot remember walking on all fours.   I have occasionally
walked with a stick.  I think that I skipped the running phase.   The paragliding I get!

For everyone that thinks I am crazy, I am just following my DNA trail!

Friday Night With Myra and Keith... Lets Go Downtown! Lets eat too much at Hatties B!

Of course we had to go to American Pickers in the Marathon Building!
Of course we went to the Stage even though Megan was not working.

Of course Carol showed me her garter belt after a few drinks.
I just now noticed she had boots on.
Pops arranged to get downtown on the train but forgot to book tickets on
the way back.  We had to take an Uber back home.

(The train was not running the usual Friday Night Circuit.
Doug will check the next time we go by train.  I promise.)

The Only Problem With a Cruise to Patagonia: Clouds

Cruise from Santiago, Chile around Patagonia to Buenos Aires, Brazil

Ask a photographer the following question:  What is the hardest
environment to take a good landscape picture.  They will say:
Cloudy, Rainy Conditions.  That would describe much of our
two-week Patagonia cruise.  It was hard to stay enthused to
stand out on the deck and take pictures when they all turned
out so bland.  Oh well, it was a wonderful cruise, except for
the pictures.  The scenery was great, the pictures sucked.

We have been on this ship of couple of times as it floats around
the world, Alaska, Baltic Sea and obviously Patagonia.

Carol and I spent a lot of time together inside, enjoying the ship.
(I remembered this ship-up-front-lounge from our Baltic Cruise
where we took pictures of Amaya and Addy on the floor in
matching dresses.  My how time flies!)

Doug enjoying the view of his beautiful wife reading a book.

To save some money, we must have gotten a room without a
balcony.  In hindsight, that was probably ok since it was pretty
cool, cloudy and rainy for at least half of the cruise.

We hiked a volcano one day, cannot remember the name of it.
It was a nice day as you can see and the boardwalk was a neat
photographic feature.  Miles of wooden boardwalk all the
way to the top (the top was too high for a half day hike).

The Story of a True American Vietnam Hero: John McCain and the Hanoi Hilton

We visited the Hoa Lo Prison while in Vietnam - often called the Hanoi Hilton.
Most of the prison has been torn down and made into a... yes, hotel.  The part
still standing is a very impressive museum showing the history of the Vietnamese
War.  You can ascertain from the history that it is written from the perspective
of Hanoi existing in North Vietnam.  That does not detract from the feelings
that you have as you realize the significance of the suffering that existed in
this prison.  It was an amazing self tour and I am glad that we did it.

A picture of John McCain obviously touring the prison later in his life.
The picture no doubt gave the details but it is the fact that he is back
that is significant to me.

This had to be a very touching time in the Senate when John hobbled
out on crutches to meet his Father on the Senate floor.  An Amazing hero
from no doubt an amazing family that has given a lot to America!

The Blues and Book of Mormon Tonight: Wednesday, March 13, 2019

We saw two new blues boys at the Bourbon Street last night.
They were good.  So was the gumbo and beer.

Did not stay long as we had TPAC tickets for the Book of
Mormon - which was written by the same people as South Park.
(I did not watch it way back then but we did go to the theatre.)
It was raunchy and sometimes hard to understand the words
but most definitely entertaining.  Probably won't play in SLC.

Interesting Double Exposure Photograph - Taken in 1947?

In going through some old family pictures, I found a quite blurry one
with no references on it.  I am assuming that the pictures were taken at
a wedding - presumably 1947 - and that this picture is a double
exposure.  The first (or second) picture taken of a bride and
the next (or previous) picture take of a small infant.

It would be fun if anyone knew the identity of the infant
that was likely at the said wedding.  I will be checking
more wedding pictures of the same event to see if
I can identify the bride, infant and picture taker.

I do not think that the double exposure was taken on
purpose, probably only the photographer would be
able to comment on that sly move if intentional.

Friends and Family Visits: Home and Away Games

Visit from Ted and Nancy who were here with Nancy's relatives to look
for a house - they are getting kicked out of California.  (We are happy to
have them as new Nashville neighbors.)  We met up for breakfast at the
mall and then went across the street for coffee at the Hotel gardens.

Meg, Eric and Panama went to Phoenix to participate in Spring training - this
was by request of the Rockies Manager who wanted Miss P to be the ball girl
for one of the games.  Bev and Family, of course, put on a dinner spread and
invited everyone that needed a meal.  Picture may be at Ted's house - not sure.
Nancy, Maggie, Jerry, Megan, Cleo, Raisa, Brad, Bev, Ted, Panama and Eric.

Last nite here, Nancy, Ted and Heather met us at 3rd and Lindsley for a
small venue concert - the details shown in a post nearby.
Welcome to the Nashville Neighborhood Heather and Family!
