Ruby and Vernon Sjolquist Visit Mitchel in 1962 from Fargo, North Dakota

Picture Postcard of Malcolm Sent to Aunt Elsie in Nebraska (Minnie's Sister)

Oleson Family Christmas Picture With Glen on Furlough

This family picture was taken while Glen was on furlough, according to the back of the photograph.
Left to right back row:  Duane, Aunt Fredericka, Loyd, Fred, Marie, Minnie, Gladys, Glen with Marvin and Janice up front.

Glen's uniform looks like Air Force or perhaps Army Air Corp.

Josephine Eaton with Opal and Jessie Evans and Family

I am not sure how the Evans fit into the Family plan.
Will watch for more evidence in other pictures.

Fred Oleson's 65th Birthday Party With Family Attending

I know the names of some of the family attending Fred's party and I will fill in with more as I find a picture that identifies them.

From left to right... Marie and Minnie, Chester Johnson with daughter Carlene behind him.  Fred with Rachael Bierman's one year old baby Karen on his lap.  Maxine Oleson behind him. Another Bierman to the right of Fred and the baby.

Misfeldt girls and unidentified boy in front of tall Duane Oleson.
Marvin Shaw with eyes in the air wondering when he will get to eat cake.  Unidentified dark haired woman with glasses behind and to the left of Marvin.

There was another picture taken at this party shown below that shows the entire group of attendees, minus the photographer.

See the attendee list on the back of the picture.

Fred and Minnie and Family Visiting Morris and Gertie in Sioux City

Interesting picture taken in 1929.  Fred and Minnie and their family are visiting Morris and Gertrude Hansen (Fred's sister) in Sioux City, Iowa.  Fred's father, Nels and mother Marie, left Sioux City in 1889 for the Dakota Territory... now Fred is back again in Sioux City.  Fred was born in Sioux City but his sister Gertie was born in South Dakota.  How the world turns!!

The photographer probably did not predict how awful the picture would be taken in the shade.  Interesting though... sort of.

Orville and Jospehine Eaton

Orville, somewhere in the icycle season and Josie in Mitchell in 1977.  Check out that Hammond Organ Leslie Speaker.

Morris Hansen and Fred Oleson Checking the South Dakota Crops

Assume that this is Fred's crop in South Dakota.  At some point, Morris and Fred's sister Gertrude lived in the upper northwest.  Maybe Morris was visiting and Fred was showing him around.

I would have like to live in the overall generation.  No damn belts holding up your pants, making your back sore.  Plus a good place to put your hands when your walking, talking or just contemplating your next crop in this field.

Minnie Oleson and Unidentified Friends at the Ipswich Train Depot

Based on the picture, only Minnie Oleson, far right, is identified.  As I scan other old pictures, I will try to identify others.

9/1/2019 Update:  According to Elsie's FindAGraveWebSite, she married Ray Burgess on 11/1/1924 at Ipswitch, SD.  Therefore,

perhaps this is Minnie with Elsie's family at the depot waiting for the train, perhaps Minnie's train back to Faulkton.  Just taking a guess, Elsie is probably the lady on the far left with Ray behind her daughter and granddaughter who is holding another small grandchild.  This will be my guess until I know better.

Fred and Minnie Oleson - 1957 for Minnie, Fred Unknown Year

At first glance, you cannot be sure what Minnie was holding as she was having her picture taken.  Under higher magnification, you can see that she was holding a small farm kitten - no doubt one of hundreds on the local farms at any given time.

Nice to see that Minnie had a soft side, one that held near and dear children, kids, teenage boys... and of course small kittens.

Both Pictures Say Minnie in Minniesota... sorry could not help it.

Not sure where Fred was, maybe back at the Faulkton farm.  Not sure who lived in Minnesota that Minnie would go to visit.  Minnie looked nice in her fashionable hat.

Fred Oleson Birthday Boquet in Seattle, Washington

Fred never reminded me of being a "flower guy" but I am sure that he took them graciously from Uncle Morris.  (Uncle Morris was married to Fred's sister Gertrude.)  Fred, no doubt, heard that the West Coast Americans liked to do flowers and such.  I wonder how Fred and Minnie got to the West Coast?   Would they go by car or by train or airplane?  Train likely in my mind as cars were not that reliable and roads were slow and airplanes were likely very expensive.  (Also where do you fly from when you live in Faulkton, South Dakota?)

Leonard Oleson - Died at Age 21 Due to Ruptured Appendix. Oldest Boy in the Family.

Fred and Minnie Oleson - Likely At the Farm.

Loyd and His Best Friend Perhaps... Harry Eisele from Frankfurt, S.D.

Loyd and Harry played music together for years and years.  Harry had a very successful band - orchestra really - and Loyd joined on the piano originally.  Tim and I used to go stay with Harry and Marion Gail, his wife, at their farm.  He taught me to drive his truck so that I could meet him to unload his combine at the end of the field.  It was a great experience for us.  One time, I can remember asking Marion Gail if we could have a snack... she said yes... we ate half of the angel food cake that she planned for supper.  Harry had one daughter by the name of Mary Diane.
Harry was a good guy by anyone's standards.

Loyd and His Favorite Big Brother Leonard - Loyd 5?: 1929?

Fred Oleson's 63rd Birthday Party: His Birthday is 10/19/1883.

I know some of the names, obviously Fred & Minnie are sitting on the couch and Marvin Shaw is tucked behind Minnie.  Next to Minnie, in front of her is Rachael Johnson Beirman with a small boy.  Next to them on the left end of the couch is Chester Johnson. (His wife Karen or Carrie, Fred's sister died in 1937, nine years ago.)  Next to Fred is an unknown young lady with Karen Johnson Beirman in front of her.  The two Misfeldt Sisters are in front of Aunt Susie.  Who is between Aunt Susie and Marie and is the Johnson girl in the corner next to Susie named Carlene?  Dale appears to be tucked behind Marie and Janice and Derald are next to Loyd and Maxine.  Tall Duane is next to Loyd with an unknown boy in front of him.  On the end, are two gentlemen with folded arms and quite the tan lines that quit at eye level.  Is one of them Oren Johnson?  Picture is taken at Fred's 63rd BD.

Who are the unidentified people?
How are the two Misfeldt sisters related to the group?

Fred Hunting Pheasants and With His Sisters: Susie and Gertie

Fred with two cocks in hand after using his double barrel on them.  Note that he has a USN (US Navy) jacket on.  Likely a present to him from someone that served in the war.  (Otho Eaton was the only Navy member that I am aware of.  Otho knew the Oleson family but not sure he would give Fred his Navy jacket.)

William Seamore House and His Wife Margaret Elvina Cline House

Parents of Minnie and her siblings: Florence, Elsie and Charles.
They lived in a very sturdy stone house for much of their life in Miranda, South Dakota.

Minnie Oleson and Fred's Sister Fredericka

I love these old pictures showing the lighter side of their hard life. Minnie and Fredericka must have been close as I have seen other pictures of them together.  In 1910, they went to the Corn Palace Show with their husbands, Fred and Lou.  The four of them posed in a new car that the photographer used as a prop - he then put their picture on a postcard.

Loyd and His Older Brother Leonard

Loyd said that Leonard kept him warm in the winter in their attic bed - Leonard died in his early 20's due to an ruptured appendix.
